Here’s some foot care tips just for you.

1. Wear the right shoes. Try to choose leather, canvas shoe or a shoe made with a highly breathable material. Sandals are very good. Try to avoid synthetic materials. Some of the modern materials could work very well for you even though they are not technically leather or canvas. You may have to experiment a bit.
Be sure and read our pages on choosing shoes here. Pay special attention to the wicking characteristics of both the shoes and the socks. A longish read but very worth it for you.
2. Change shoes daily. A bit of a nuisance but you want to give your shoes a chance to rest, breath and dry a bit between uses. You don’t want to give fungi a place to get started!

3. Use foot powder. Use a good quality brand recommended by your doctor for your feet.

4. Be diligent. You are more prone to having athlete’s foot get started. Sweating doesn’t cause athlete’s foot all by itself. When you combine it with moisture and poor ventilation in that shoe though it create a good situation for it to get started. This is a contagious disease. See your doctor for more guidance in treating it.

Without doubt, your feet are the most active part of your body, even more than your hands. In fact most of the time they are definitely overworked. In this scenario, what do you do for your feet? A pedicure once a month is not enough. You need to take care almost on a daily basis. Most of the foot problems are caused because of neglect and almost no maintenance of your feet. You must pamper your feet once in a while and give them special treatment and also care for them every day. Following tips will help you to take care of your feet.

Scrub your feet with a foot scrubber as it removes the dry cells. Then, apply moisturizer generously.

Apply foot cream before going to bed, to avoid cracked heels.

Avoid wearing high heels as they put pressure on the feet. Ill-fitting shoes or weakened arches may cause corns and calluses. Hence selection of proper shoes is essential. If at all you suffer from corns and calluses, use corn remover pads and ointments, after consulting your physician.

To prevent foot odor [due to perspiration], use odor-control products that comprise of foot powders, foot sprays and specially designed insoles. These keep the feet dry and fresh as well as prevent foot odor.

Shoe-bite is a common complaint, so to avoid them. Use heel grips and cushions and also ‘air pillow’, which provide cushioning comfort while relieving pressure on heel

For daily use, wear shoes of adequate width, comfortable instep and plenty of wiggle room for toes. Reserve high heels and tight shoes for short-term wear. Heel tight should generally be restricted to no more than 2 ½ inches and the heel should be broad enough to support the wearer’s weight.

Change socks or tights daily and don’t wear the same shoes daily, which you use for running – give them a day or to dry out properly as feet sweat a lot.

Simple home remedies

1. Soak feet for 10 minutes in warm water to which salt has been added. Remove and scrub dry, especially between the toes. This is the easiest way to relax tired feet. In the case of a sprain add Epsom salt to the water for best results.

2. You can also use the hot ‘n’ cold treatment, which improves the blood circulation of your feet. First dip you feet in hot water and then dip it in cold water. Do this for 20 minutes.

3. Alternatively add a shampoo to warm water and soak your feet for 10 minutes. This will also improve the texture of the toenails.

4. For cracked heels mix a few drops of lemon juice in Vaseline and apply gently on cracked heels.

5. Scrub heels with pumice stone while bathing and then apply a rich moisturising cream.

6. Use a good hand and body lotion on your feet too.

7. Mix a few drops of lemon juice in vaseline and apply gently on cracked heels.

8. After bath, apply almond oil to the feet and massage until all the oil has been soaked up. Do it for a month for best results.

Finding the world’s most beautiful eyes was challenging, to say the least. With a list that started at 50 sets of beautiful eyes that then had to be reduced to 10, well, you can imagine the hesitation to exclude some of the many gorgeous women that were considered. Some of the lovely ladies who missed breaking the top ten were Megan Fox, Raquel Welch and, believe it or not, Marie Osmond who were all in the initial 50.

One of the most difficult tasks for this list of the most beautiful eyes was finding a large head shot that showcased their eyes. Most photos included the entire female’s body and when you look at the list of women below you know why that is a good thing – most certainly had a beautiful body to match their incredible eyes. So we did the best we could and looked for nice photography that concentrated on the face and the eyes.

10. Charlize Theron

She’s got stunning eyes, but what else? She won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Monster.

And there you have it, ten of the most beautiful eyes in the world. As with most lists, even top ten lists, there is some subjectivity, so please include any beauties you may think were missed.

Do you wear contact lenses? If so, there are things you should be aware of, to protect your eyes from permanent damage.

In a nut shell: give your eyes a break. Expert say that you can get away with wearing contact lenses 12 to 14 hours a day, but that you should give your eyes a break once a week. Most experts agree that if someone wears contact lenses for too long – say for over 16 hours/day each day – their eyes could become starved of oxygen. In the long-term, this can result in the cornea losing its transparency.
If your eyes get starved of oxygen, tiny blood vessels in the eye start to shoot off and new ones develop. The most disturbing thing about blood vessels growing on the eye is that there are usually no symptoms and the eye could feel perfectly normal. An optician will be on the look out for signs of this happening, and so it is a good idea to have your eyes examined by an optician regularly.

According to a Dutch study (1), overnight use of extended-wear contact lenses is the most important risk factor for a potentially blinding form of eye infection, called “microbial keratitis”.

The researchers focused on the incidence of this rare form of bacterial eye infection associated with contact lens use. In certain rare cases, microbial keratitis can result in damage to the cornea leading to partial or total blindness in the eye.

According to the researchers in this study (1), the risk of microbial keratitis was almost 20 times greater for users of extended-wear soft contact lenses and 3 times greater for users of daily-wear soft contact lenses than for people who use daily-wear hard lenses. The researchers attribute the high risk of infection of extended-wear lens users to the users’ tendency to keep the contact lenses in overnight.

Hard or soft contact lenses?

The old type of hard contact lenses were made from a material that did not allow any oxygen to get through to the cornea, therefore tiny holes had to be made in them. Then the rigid gas permeable contact lens was developed, which allowed more oxygen to get through.

Today’s rigid gas permeable contact lenses are generally referred to as “hard” contact lenses. Hard contact lenses can be useful if you suffer from astigmatism (egg-shaped eye) because they can be moulded in order to correct the egg-shape.

Soft contact lenses, are made from gel-like plastics, are all gas permeable, and come in many different levels of water-content, which allows different levels of oxygen to reach the cornea. Most people choose soft lenses over hard contact lenses because they are generally more comfortable. But in some cases hard lenses are still preferable.

Once I get my contact lens prescription from my optician, I usually prefer to buy my contact lenses online as this is usually a cheaper alternative. I get the contact lenses recommended by my optician, only for less money than the doctor charges usually. The laws were changed some years ago to allow contact lens customers the freedom to buy their contact lenses where they wish. If your eye doctor refuses to give you a copy of your prescription, find another eye doctor.

What about eye drops and contact lenses?

When you use a computer for an extended period of time, for example, you tend to blink less. Your eyes are open for longer, therefore more tears evaporate and your contact lenses dry up faster. This situation can be made worse by centrally heated or dry air-conditioned offices.

For this reason, it is a good idea to use eye drops a few times a day. Make sure your bottled eye drops are fresh, since although eye drops contain preservatives, they usually need to be used within 30 days, although most people have a tendency to keep them for a couple of years.

Wearing contact lenses is an excellent way to correct poor eyesight and still maintain an active flexible lifestyle, as opposed to wearing eye glasses. However, new contact lens wearers always experience one fundamental problem – they cannot place the soft lens on their eyes. It’s a mixed emotion of fear of touching the eyeballs, and worry that placing the lens might inflict pain.

If you are one of those people having a hard time placing contact lenses, or if you’re planning to wear contacts but you’re hesitating to do so for fear of being hurt, I understand what you’re going through. I had the same fears before I made a switch from glasses to contacts. The first time I bought contacts, the ophthalmologist actually gave up trying to place the lens on my eyes. We stayed inside the “fitting room” for more than an hour, but to no avail, my eyes just closes each time the ophthalmologist tried to fit the lens upon my eyeballs. I just can’t do it.

I asked the ophthalmologist in a humorous tone: “Do I now hold the world record for the longest time elapsed for fitting a contact lens?” She instantly answered with a frown: “YES”. That night, I went home thinking I’m a big hopeless case.

But two days later, I decided to tackle the whole thing all over again. So I gathered courage and started to take it on my own. No ophthalmologist. No one watching. For my eyes only. After some trial and error, I discovered that the whole thing WAS EASIER THAN I THOUGHT. Now, I can insert and remove a contact lens like a certified pro. I realized that it’s only the FEAR that keeps me from doing what I need to do. It’s the FEAR that paralyzes me. The moment I dismantled FEAR from my system, I was able to enjoy the benefits of a new experience.

Before I give you the steps of how to effortlessly wear a contact lens, let me give you a few guidelines first. These tips will help you cut the learning curve and avoid learning the hard way like I did:

1. Believe it or not, touching the eyeballs for a split second or two doesn’t hurt – Tell that to yourself if you’re a first time contact lens wearer. And yes, that’s the truth, it wont hurt. It actually feels a litle ticklish.
2. It’s impossible for the contact lens to get lost inside your eyes – Many people have the fear that the contact lens might get stuck somewhere inside the concave of the eyeballs and may never be recovered again, leaving the person blind. This is rubbish. It’s only a false voice inside your head. The doctors already figured this out. The contact lens is designed to automatically stick and adjust itself to the “swimming pool” of the eyes – the retina.
3. As long as you wash your hands and wash your lens, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. The only enemy you have here is fear, and dirt.

OK, now you’re ready to wear your first contact lens.. Are you ready? Here are the instructions:

1. Prepare your work area. Put yourself in front of a decent mirror. Clear all distractions. If you’re in front of a bathroom sink, make sure you close the hole or drain to avoid any “accidents”.
2. Wash your hands thoroughly. I’m sure you know how to do that.
3. Now..get your contact lens for the right eye. Place it on top of your left pointing finger. (Make sure your finger is moist but not wet, this will save you more time)

4. Put a drop of saline solution (provided by your contact lens practitioner) on the contact lens.

5. Lift your right upper eyelid with your right pointing finger (you must do this so that your blinking will be limited during the entire activity. You must be able to see the upper white of your eye), then lower your right lower eyelid with your right thumb.
6. Now, using the left pointing finger, let the contact lens touch any part of the right eye near the center. While your lens is drawing nearer to the eyes, keep looking on the mirror. When the lens is very near to your eyes, suddenly stop looking on the mirror and try to look on the lens. Then, let the lens make contact with your eyes for a split second (remember it doesnt hurt, just ticklish).
7. Withdraw your finger from the eyes..the lens has now been attached. Blink a few times. Everything is clearer now.

8. Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 for your left eye (of course, now, you will need to use your right hand. If you did it once, you can do it again.)

Note: It is normal to be teary eyed after you have placed the contact lenses, especially if it’s your first time. But once your eyes get used to it, you will feel like you’re not wearing any lenses at all.

Removing the contact lens is much easier. Just use your thumb and index finger, then gently squeeze the lens from your eyes. That should remove it. Remember it doesnt hurt. It doesnt hurt. It doesnt hurt. I said that three times so you will remember it.

Warning: Before trying out contact lenses, make sure you get help from a certified eye practitioner.

If we are wearing contact lens, the chances are that the contacts will get dry for only a few hours after we have worn it. Besides that, at night, when we have finish wearing it, we need to clean it and store it in the right way to maintain the lasting of our contact lens.

In this mini guide, I will show a few simple but efficient steps on how to clean your contact lens the right way. But why do we have to clean our contact lens. Based on the Tri-Action formula formulated by Bausch and Lomb, when we clean our lens, it will removed proteins that accumulate when we wear it during the day. Besides that, if we clean it thoroughly, it will effectively kill micro-organisms that are bacteria and fungi on our lenses. Furthermore, with a good cleaning, it will remove dirt and debris that deposit on our lenses so that it will provide a clearer vision. So, with a proper cleaning method and good cleaning solution, our lenses are clean and comfortable giving us that Fresh Contact Lens feeling everyday.

So, here are the steps that need to be followed on a daily basis.

Step one is rubbing. We need to place around three drops of a good contact lens solution, for example the Bausch and Lomb Renu Multiplus Multi Purpose Solution, on each side of the lens surface and gently rub for ten seconds on each side. Make sure to rub it thoroughly.

Step two is rinsing. After we have thoroughly rubbing each side, we need to rinse each side of the lens for five seconds again with a good solution, and try to use a good multi purpose solution.

Step three is soaking. After a good rubbing and rinsing, place the cleaned contact lens in the lens case and fill it with the solution. Remember to soak it for at least four hours. Remember to always use fresh solution – never reused solution that has been used because of all the bacteria and fungi.

Remember to always follow your eye care professionals instructions because they will provide a careful instruction based on your individual tear chemistry and lens wearing schedule. They will also recommend additional products or procedures to be used. They will also recommend the step without the rubbing method, which is the first step above. If this happens, to clean, disinfect and remove protein daily without the rubbing step, complete step two and step three only as described above. All of the above steps are shown when cleaning the soft contact lenses including the Silicone Hydrogel.

Remember to use a good cleaning solution because they can kill 99.99% of all the bacteria and fungi. And also, make sure to get a really good contact lens accessories, especially the contact lens solution so that our contact lens will last longer when using a good contact lens solution. if not the lifetime of our contact lens will become shorter and shorter.
